Active Fonts In MainType a font is considered active when it is either installed or loaded. An installed font is both added to the system font table and to the font related part of the registry. All fonts in the system font table are available to all applications. Due to the entry in the registry an installed font is always available even after a reboot. A loaded font (also known as a temporary installed font) is added to the system font table, but not to the font related part of the registry. Because all fonts in the system font table are available to all applications, loaded fonts (just like installed fonts) are available to all applications. However loaded fonts are no longer available after the system is rebooted. Select Multiple Fonts To select multiple fonts do one of the following: To select consecutive fonts, click the first font, press and hold down SHIFT, and then click the last font. To select nonconsecutive fonts, press and hold down CTRL, and then click each font. To select all the fonts in the list, on the Edit menu, click Select All. Install , Load, Uninstall and Unload Fonts To install, load, uninstall or unload fonts, select one or more fonts from the fonts pane and then select the appropriate item from the File menu or press one of the toolbar buttons
When you perform a font operation (install, uninstall, load, unload, move, copy or delete) a window will pop up, showing you the progress of your initiated font operation. When you no longer wish to keep closing that window manually after all tasks completed successfully, click once on the little pin in the bottom left corner of the font operation Window or select Options from the Tools menu and then click the Fonts tab. Now enable the Fonts Operation setting.
When you uninstall an installed or loaded font, it will be removed from both the system font table and the registry. As a result the font is no longer available, in case the font is used in an application, it will most likely show a substitute font. When you uninstall a font that is located in Windows fonts folder the file(s) will be copied to the Backup folder (View -> Browse -> Backup Folder) and then the original file(s) are removed from Windows fonts folder. If "Warn when uninstalling fonts" is checked in the Warnings tab of the Options dialog, a warning dialogue will be shown. You can turn off this warning if you wish. When you unload an installed or loaded font, it will be removed from the system font table. If the font was previously installed, its registry entry is not touched, so the font will become available again after a reboot.
Fonts installed from a removable storage medium are copied to Windows fonts folder, to ensure they are always available to your system. The performance of your system is affected by the number of active fonts. We recommend you have no more than 500 fonts installed, and on older systems with limited memory (for example Windows Me with 128 MB RAM) you should have no more than 100 or 200 active fonts. To ensure you can use as many fonts as you like, organize your fonts into groups and load or unload them when needed. Quick Install and Uninstall Fonts The quickest and most convenient way to install or uninstall a single font is to double-click it. Based on the status of the font, MainType will install it or uninstall it. A font that is currently loaded, will be unloaded with double-click. |
