Character grid panel

The character grid shows all characters available in the selected font. For your convenience, the characters are grouped into Unicode blocks. The caption bar of this panel contains a Unicode Block combo box, two buttons to go to the previous or next available Unicode block and a character size combo box.

The mouse wheel can be used to zoom in or out when the CTRL key is pressed. If you also press the SHIFT key, the cell size will not change, but the character size will change. To reset to the default sizes, select Reset Font Sizes from the View menu.

In enabled through settings in the Options dialog, when you click on a character, a panel with an enlarged view of the selected character will pop-up.

Glyphs

This panel also allows you to view all glyphs. To enable this, click the left “Unicode” button on the toolbar. This way you can see all glyph outlines as available in the font. In general glyphs that are not mapped to characters, can only be accessed through OpenType layout features.

Find a character

Use the search button to find a character in the selected font. An additional toolbar will become visible which allows you to search by codepoint, character, and (part of) name.

Codepoint

Provide a code point in either decimal or hexadecimal notation (e.g. 64, 0x40, or $40 to find character @). A nearby character will be found if the font does not contain a matching character.

Character

Type (or copy and paste) a single character. If you provide more than one character, only the first one will be used.

Name

To search for a specific (part of a) name, enter the text in the text box. The character names are defined in the Unicode Character Database that is maintained by the Unicode Consortium.
